The UK driving test has undergone major updates in 2026, including stricter booking rules, longer independent driving, fewer mandatory stops, and new theory test content focused on real-world skills and safety.
From March 31, 2026 in England, Scotland and Wales, the test candidate can only change their car driving test 2 time, reduced from it original 6.
A Change can include, The Date, Time or Test Centre and multiple changes made simultaneously count as only a single change.
If both changes are used the test candidate must cancel the test and rebook with a full refund of the original test if it is made at least 10 days before the test
From May 12 2026, only learners are Legally aloud to book or modify a test, Meaning that instructors or 3rd party websites are no longer able to do it for you.
From June 9 2026, The location you are allowed to move your test to will be restricted to the 3 closest test centres to the originally book centre. This is to prevent long distance slot hopping.
