Introduction of minimum learning period for learner drivers
The UK government is proposing a Minimum Learning Period (MLP) for car drivers. It forces learners to wait 3 to 6 months after passing their theory test before taking their practical test. The goal is to build real-world experience and lower crash rates for young drivers. Why is this happening? Changes to the Driving test in 2026
The UK driving test has undergone major updates in 2026, including stricter booking rules, longer independent driving, fewer mandatory stops, and new theory test content focused on real-world skills and safety.
